CVE-2023-54157 1 Linux 1 Linux Kernel 2026-04-15 N/A
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: binder: fix UAF of alloc->vma in race with munmap() [ cmllamas: clean forward port from commit 015ac18be7de ("binder: fix UAF of alloc->vma in race with munmap()") in 5.10 stable. It is needed in mainline after the revert of commit a43cfc87caaf ("android: binder: stop saving a pointer to the VMA") as pointed out by Liam. The commit log and tags have been tweaked to reflect this. ] In commit 720c24192404 ("ANDROID: binder: change down_write to down_read") binder assumed the mmap read lock is sufficient to protect alloc->vma inside binder_update_page_range(). This used to be accurate until commit dd2283f2605e ("mm: mmap: zap pages with read mmap_sem in munmap"), which now downgrades the mmap_lock after detaching the vma from the rbtree in munmap(). Then it proceeds to teardown and free the vma with only the read lock held. This means that accesses to alloc->vma in binder_update_page_range() now will race with vm_area_free() in munmap() and can cause a UAF as shown in the following KASAN trace: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in vm_insert_page+0x7c/0x1f0 Read of size 8 at addr ffff16204ad00600 by task server/558 CPU: 3 PID: 558 Comm: server Not tainted 5.10.150-00001-gdc8dcf942daa #1 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) Call trace: dump_backtrace+0x0/0x2a0 show_stack+0x18/0x2c dump_stack+0xf8/0x164 print_address_description.constprop.0+0x9c/0x538 kasan_report+0x120/0x200 __asan_load8+0xa0/0xc4 vm_insert_page+0x7c/0x1f0 binder_update_page_range+0x278/0x50c binder_alloc_new_buf+0x3f0/0xba0 binder_transaction+0x64c/0x3040 binder_thread_write+0x924/0x2020 binder_ioctl+0x1610/0x2e5c __arm64_sys_ioctl+0xd4/0x120 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0xac/0x270 do_el0_svc+0x38/0xa0 el0_svc+0x1c/0x2c el0_sync_handler+0xe8/0x114 el0_sync+0x180/0x1c0 Allocated by task 559: kasan_save_stack+0x38/0x6c __kasan_kmalloc.constprop.0+0xe4/0xf0 kasan_slab_alloc+0x18/0x2c kmem_cache_alloc+0x1b0/0x2d0 vm_area_alloc+0x28/0x94 mmap_region+0x378/0x920 do_mmap+0x3f0/0x600 vm_mmap_pgoff+0x150/0x17c ksys_mmap_pgoff+0x284/0x2dc __arm64_sys_mmap+0x84/0xa4 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0xac/0x270 do_el0_svc+0x38/0xa0 el0_svc+0x1c/0x2c el0_sync_handler+0xe8/0x114 el0_sync+0x180/0x1c0 Freed by task 560: kasan_save_stack+0x38/0x6c kasan_set_track+0x28/0x40 kasan_set_free_info+0x24/0x4c __kasan_slab_free+0x100/0x164 kasan_slab_free+0x14/0x20 kmem_cache_free+0xc4/0x34c vm_area_free+0x1c/0x2c remove_vma+0x7c/0x94 __do_munmap+0x358/0x710 __vm_munmap+0xbc/0x130 __arm64_sys_munmap+0x4c/0x64 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0xac/0x270 do_el0_svc+0x38/0xa0 el0_svc+0x1c/0x2c el0_sync_handler+0xe8/0x114 el0_sync+0x180/0x1c0 [...] ================================================================== To prevent the race above, revert back to taking the mmap write lock inside binder_update_page_range(). One might expect an increase of mmap lock contention. However, binder already serializes these calls via top level alloc->mutex. Also, there was no performance impact shown when running the binder benchmark tests.
CVE-2025-40213 1 Linux 1 Linux Kernel 2026-04-15 5.5 Medium
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: MGMT: fix crash in set_mesh_sync and set_mesh_complete There is a BUG: KASAN: stack-out-of-bounds in set_mesh_sync due to memcpy from badly declared on-stack flexible array. Another crash is in set_mesh_complete() due to double list_del via mgmt_pending_valid + mgmt_pending_remove. Use DEFINE_FLEX to declare the flexible array right, and don't memcpy outside bounds. As mgmt_pending_valid removes the cmd from list, use mgmt_pending_free, and also report status on error.

Otherwise they will be lost. In this case an AUTOFS_IOC_EXPIRE_MULTI ioctl is done, then a new waitqueue struct is allocated in autofs_wait(), its initial wait_ctr equals 2. After that wait_event_killable() is interrupted (it returns -ERESTARTSYS), so that 'wq->name.name == NULL' condition may be not satisfied. Actually, this condition can be satisfied when autofs_wait_release() or autofs_catatonic_mode() is called and, what is also important, wait_ctr is decremented in those places. Upon the exit of autofs_wait(), wait_ctr is decremented to 1. Then the unmounting process begins: kill_sb calls autofs_catatonic_mode(), which should have freed the waitqueues, but it only decrements its usage counter to zero which is not a correct behaviour. edit:imk This description is of course not correct. The umount performed as a result of an expire is a umount of a mount that has been automounted, it's not the autofs mount itself. They happen independently, usually after everything mounted within the autofs file system has been expired away. If everything hasn't been expired away the automount daemon can still exit leaving mounts in place. But expires done in both cases will result in a notification that calls autofs_wait_release() with a result status. The problem case is the summary execution of of the automount daemon. In this case any waiting processes won't be woken up until either they are terminated or the mount is umounted. end edit: imk So in catatonic mode we should free waitqueues which counter becomes zero. edit: imk Initially I was concerned that the calling of autofs_wait_release() and autofs_catatonic_mode() was not mutually exclusive but that can't be the case (obviously) because the queue entry (or entries) is removed from the list when either of these two functions are called. Consequently the wait entry will be freed by only one of these functions or by the woken process in autofs_wait() depending on the order of the calls. end edit: imk

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/fbdev-generic: prohibit potential out-of-bounds access The fbdev test of IGT may write after EOF, which lead to out-of-bound access for drm drivers with fbdev-generic. CVE-2023-54080 1 Linux 1 Linux Kernel 2026-04-15 N/A
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: zoned: skip splitting and logical rewriting on pre-alloc write When doing a relocation, there is a chance that at the time of btrfs_reloc_clone_csums(), there is no checksum for the corresponding region. In this case, btrfs_finish_ordered_zoned()'s sum points to an invalid item and so ordered_extent's logical is set to some invalid value. Then, btrfs_lookup_block_group() in btrfs_zone_finish_endio() failed to find a block group and will hit an assert or a null pointer dereference as following. This can be reprodcued by running btrfs/028 several times (e.g, 4 to 16 times) with a null_blk setup. The device's zone size and capacity is set to 32 MB and the storage size is set to 5 GB on my setup. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix race when deleting free space root from the dirty cow roots list When deleting the free space tree we are deleting the free space root from the list fs_info->dirty_cowonly_roots without taking the lock that protects it, which is struct btrfs_fs_info::trans_lock. This unsynchronized list manipulation may cause chaos if there's another concurrent manipulation of this list, such as when adding a root to it with ctree.c:add_root_to_dirty_list(). Racing IOMMUFD_DESTROY with iommufd_object_destroy_user() will cause spurious failures: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 3076 at drivers/iommu/iommufd/device.c:477 iommufd_access_destroy+0x18/0x20 drivers/iommu/iommufd/device.c:478 Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 3076 Comm: syz-executor.0 Not tainted 6.3.0-rc1-syzkaller #0 Hardware name: Google Google Compute Engine/Google Compute Engine, BIOS Google 07/03/2023 RIP: 0010:iommufd_access_destroy+0x18/0x20 drivers/iommu/iommufd/device.c:477 Code: e8 3d 4e 00 00 84 c0 74 01 c3 0f 0b c3 0f 1f 44 00 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 89 fe 48 8b bf a8 00 00 00 e8 1d 4e 00 00 84 c0 74 01 c3 <0f> 0b c3 0f 1f 44 00 00 41 57 41 56 41 55 4c 8d ae d0 00 00 00 41 RSP: 0018:ffffc90003067e08 EFLAGS: 00010246 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffff888109ea0300 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 0000000000000001 RSI: 0000000000000000 RDI: 00000000ffffffff RBP: 0000000000000004 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: ffff88810bbb3500 R10: ffff88810bbb3e48 R11: 0000000000000000 R12: ffffc90003067e88 R13: ffffc90003067ea8 R14: ffff888101249800 R15: 00000000fffffffe FS: 00007ff7254fe6c0(0000) GS:ffff888237c00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 0000555557262da8 CR3: 000000010a6fd000 CR4: 0000000000350ef0 Call Trace: <TASK> iommufd_test_create_access drivers/iommu/iommufd/selftest.c:596 [inline] iommufd_test+0x71c/0xcf0 drivers/iommu/iommufd/selftest.c:813 iommufd_fops_ioctl+0x10f/0x1b0 drivers/iommu/iommufd/main.c:337 vfs_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:51 [inline] __do_sys_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:870 [inline] __se_sys_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:856 [inline] __x64_sys_ioctl+0x84/0xc0 fs/ioctl.c:856 do_syscall_x64 arch/x86/entry/common.c:50 [inline] do_syscall_64+0x38/0x80 arch/x86/entry/common.c:80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd The solution is to not increment the refcount on the IOMMUFD_DESTROY path at all. Instead use the xa_lock to serialize everything. The refcount check == 1 and xa_erase can be done under a single critical region. This avoids the need for any refcount incrementing. It has the downside that if userspace races destroy with other operations it will get an EBUSY instead of waiting, but this is kind of racing is already dangerous.
